Full job description

Silverback Strategies is a performance marketing agency built to help marketers grow and capitalize on change. Ad Age, Inc Magazine, The Washington Post, The Washingtonian, and The Washington Business Journal have recognized Silverback as one of the best places to work.

We hire the best and help them get better. Silverbackers are supported, challenged and inspired by their peers. Regardless of title or tenure, every Silverbacker plays a role in helping our agency get better. This is a place where you can make a difference.

Silverback’s next SEO Manager will serve as a premier subject matter expert in all things related to SEO & Organic Search. You will develop and manage a portfolio of 4-6 SEO accounts while building great client relationships and managing projects & deliverables. You’ll bring a scrappy & tenacious attitude to your work, diving headfirst into the “new frontier” of organic search by pushing the boundaries of AI search testing. You’ll also flex best-in-class data analysis chops to break down performance metrics and directly impact the success of our clients’ businesses. Here’s what we expect from our SEO Manager:

What You'll Do

  • Strategic Chops: Responsible for driving and executing the strategy, innovation and performance of multiple client SEO strategies
  • AI & LLM Expertise: Hands-on experience with Generative AI and LLMs, including their influence on search behavior and the ability to implement optimized strategies for these engines
  • Analytical Skills: Fluently leverage tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and other SEO platforms, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Client-Facing: Lead recurring status and reporting calls & serve as assigned clients’ primary point of contact with Silverback for all things SEO. Clearly communicate complex SEO strategy and execution details to clients in a digestible, jargon-free manner
  • Client Management: Act as a trusted advisor & consultant to clients — an extension of their marketing team — to build long-lasting client relationships
  • Tactical Execution: Translate channel strategy to time-bound, tactical roadmaps. Build and maintain structured content systems, including topic clusters, pillar pages, internal links, and supporting schema. Prioritize performance-based initiatives and drive authoritative content at scale
  • Innovation: Research emerging trends in search and AI technologies to refine strategies and implement innovative best practices
  • Data Analysis: Review performance data to identify trends, measure the impact of initiatives and build actionable strategies
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with internal teammates across measurement, paid media, and creative to bring strategies to life

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Agency Background: You’ve previously “done the work” at another performance marketing agency, and know what it takes to deliver results
  • Years of Experience: We’re seeking candidates with at LEAST 2 years of agency experience; 3 years of overall relevant marketing/SEO experience is required, 5+ years preferred
  • Client-Facing Comfortability: This role is not a good fit for someone who doesn’t want to talk directly to clients. You must be comfortable building rapport, establishing expertise / credibility, and serving as the face of the SEO engagement with your assigned clients
  • AI Search Testing & Optimization: You have hands-on experience optimizing for AI search (not theoretical; actual tests). You don’t have all the answers — nobody does! — but you’re excited to test, experiment, and figure it out
  • Business Acumen: Being able to build & execute SEO strategies across multiple industries is crucial, but your ability to tie SEO wins to a measurable impact on the clients’ business, bottom line, etc is what will make you a superstar
  • Content Experience: You’re an expert at driving content strategy based on audience, keyword and competitor research. You have a strong ability to craft content briefs to provide to content teams for production
  • Tools/Platforms: You’re a pro with common SEO tools & platforms such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, SEMrush, AHRefs, and Screaming Frog
  • “Get Sh*t Done” Mentality: You’d rather take a big swing and miss than sit around twiddling your thumbs. You’re energized by & thrive in an environment where no two days are the same, and results are king
  • Adaptability & Growth: Feedback fuels you. You lean into change, sharpen your skills, and push yourself and your team to get better every day
  • Project & Time Management: You run a clean calendar and keep priorities straight. Competing demands don’t throw you

Why Silverback?

  • Silverback isn’t for everybody. If you’re an A player, you will get paid more, learn more and grow faster with support from a smart and fun team. If you’re a B player, you will be miserable
  • Work with the A team: We are ruthless about putting the best possible team on the field
  • Make an impact: We’re a small agency. Everybody has the opportunity to drive change and impact
  • Get paid: We hire the best and pay them generously
  • Do cool sh*t: From media to SEO to measurement, learn the cutting edge of what works

PERKS/BENEFITS:

  • Unlimited PTO
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans
  • Monthly Team Events and a fun, casual, inclusive company culture
  • Company-paid ClassPass membership
  • 12 weeks of Paid Parental Leave
  • Summer Fridays
  • 401(k) with Employer Match

Southern Methodist University · Dallas, TX

Our Take:Worth noting the LinkedIn title and SMU's own internal HR title don't match (Manager vs. Strategist III), a useful thing to clarify at interview. Real scale behind it: a university serving roughly 12,000 students across 80+ countries.

AI Replacement Risk, explained

We rate every role on how much of the day-to-day work could plausibly be done by current AI tools within the next year or two. It's a judgment call, not a hard science, based on three questions:

Task repeatability — is the work mostly repeatable execution (drafting, formatting, routine audits), or judgment-heavy (strategy, negotiation, prioritization)?
Precedent — are AI tools already doing a meaningful chunk of this work well today, in production, somewhere?
Accountability — does the role carry a decision or relationship someone has to own, not just an output that has to exist?

LOW

Mostly judgment, negotiation, or ownership work. AI assists, it doesn't replace.

MED

A real mix of judgment and repeatable execution. Expect the repeatable half to keep shrinking.

HIGH

Mostly production or output work, with real AI precedent already in the wild.

This is our own read, not a scientific index. Treat it as a conversation starter before you apply, not a scorecard.
