Overall Purpose: We are seeking an SEO Manager to execute day-to-day SEO tactics and drive continuous improvement in our clients’ organic search performance. Reporting to the SEO Director, this person will be hands-on in conducting keyword research, optimizing website content, fixing technical SEO issues, and monitoring results to ensure steady growth in rankings and traffic. The SEO Manager will translate the overall strategy into actionable tasks – working closely with content creators and developers – and will play a key role in delivering on client KPIs for organic visibility. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented SEO specialist who can balance multiple projects and stay ahead of search algorithm changes in a dynamic agency environment.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Execute comprehensive SEO tasks for client websites on a daily basis. This includes conducting in-depth keyword research, optimizing on-page elements (titles, meta descriptions, headings, content) for target keywords, and improving internal linking to boost relevance and rankings .
  • Perform regular technical SEO audits to identify and resolve issues that could impact crawlability or rankings – such as broken links, sitemap errors, indexing problems, site speed/performance issues, or mobile usability concerns. Coordinate with developers to implement technical fixes and enhancements
  • Implement and manage off-page SEO efforts like link building and content outreach campaigns under the guidance of the SEO Director. Identify backlink opportunities, manage relationships for guest posts or partnerships, and monitor backlink profiles for quality and compliance
  • Monitor and analyze SEO performance metrics using tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and other SEO software. Track keyword rankings, organic traffic trends, click-through rates, and conversion metrics. Prepare regular reports that detail progress, insights, and recommendations for each client
  • Continuously refine SEO tactics based on data-driven insights: if certain keywords or pages are underperforming, adjust the strategy (update content, tweak keywords, improve page UX, etc.) to capitalize on opportunities. Use A/B testing or multivariate testing for SEO changes when applicable to measure impact
  • Stay up-to-date with search engine algorithm changes (Google core updates, etc.) and industry trends. Quickly adapt optimization strategies in response to new SEO developments or ranking factor changes to maintain and improve client results
  • Collaborate closely with the SEO Director to ensure alignment with the overarching SEO strategy and priorities. Provide input and feedback during strategy sessions based on on-the-ground findings and performance data
  • Work with content writers to plan and produce SEO-friendly content (blog posts, landing page copy, etc.) that balances ranking objectives with quality and user intent. Similarly, liaise with web developers/designers to ensure site changes or new features are SEO-compliant (for example, proper use of heading tags, avoidance of content duplication, etc.)
  • Educate or inform junior team members, account managers, or clients on SEO best practices as needed – helping others understand how SEO efforts contribute to broader marketing goals

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • 5–8 years of hands-on SEO experience, preferably in an agency or multi-client environment. Proven track record of implementing SEO tactics that have led to improved rankings and organic traffic growth over time (case studies or examples will be a plus).
  • Solid understanding of search engine algorithms and ranking factors. Expertise in both on-page SEO (content optimization, HTML tags, keyword usage) and technical SEO (site architecture, page speed optimization, structured data). Familiarity with off-page SEO and link-building strategies is also required .
  • Proficiency with SEO and analytics tools: must be adept at using Google Search Console and Google Analytics for monitoring performance, as well as SEO-specific tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz, or similar for research and tracking. Ability to use these tools to diagnose issues and find opportunities is essential.

Effective at collaborating with cross-functional colleagues, such as content writers, designers, and developers, to implement SEO recommendations .
  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Ensuring accuracy in reporting, avoiding mistakes in optimization (like broken links or incorrect redirects), and adhering to best practices that prevent penalties
  • Passion for SEO and digital marketing – stays curious and continuously learns about new SEO tools, techniques, and trends. Maybe you experiment with new strategies on your own or follow industry experts to keep your knowledge fresh

AI Replacement Risk, explained

We rate every role on how much of the day-to-day work could plausibly be done by current AI tools within the next year or two. It's a judgment call, not a hard science, based on three questions:

Task repeatability — is the work mostly repeatable execution (drafting, formatting, routine audits), or judgment-heavy (strategy, negotiation, prioritization)?
Precedent — are AI tools already doing a meaningful chunk of this work well today, in production, somewhere?
Accountability — does the role carry a decision or relationship someone has to own, not just an output that has to exist?

LOW

Mostly judgment, negotiation, or ownership work. AI assists, it doesn't replace.

MED

A real mix of judgment and repeatable execution. Expect the repeatable half to keep shrinking.

HIGH

Mostly production or output work, with real AI precedent already in the wild.

This is our own read, not a scientific index. Treat it as a conversation starter before you apply, not a scorecard.
