SolarWinds

SolarWinds is an American software company headquartered in Austin, Texas, that builds network and systems management tools for IT teams, including monitoring products like Orion, Pingdom, and Loggly. Founded in 1999, it serves roughly 300,000 customers, including most Fortune 500 companies and numerous US federal agencies.

The company went public in 2009, was taken private in 2016, returned to public markets in 2018, then was acquired by Turn/River Capital in 2025. In 2020 it was the target of a major supply-chain cyberattack in which malicious code was inserted into its Orion software updates, an incident that led to significant changes in its security practices.
